Colorless and transparent liquid with smell of light ammonia, soluble in water and most organic solvents, being a commonly-used solvent for chemical reactions. Pure Dimethyl Formamide has no smell while that of technical level or degenerative has a fishlike smell, and it will appear in layer after mixed with petroleum ether.
